Whist Again
The Rialto Whist club were entertained at the time of their last gathering at the home of C. E. Bowlsby, Miss Bowlsby being hostess. The occasions the first after an intermission of several weeks and as such proved to be unusually enjoyable. Five tables waged merry war for honors, the successful scores being made by Mrs. T. H. Lackey and Charlie Fisher. Mrs. Lackey received a bottle of perfume in token for her triumph while Mr. Fisher was presented with a deck of whist cards. The guests enjoyed delicious ice cream and wafers, at the close of the game.

THE WEDDING of Miss Lois Toole and Charles E. Bowlsby was solemnized Monday evening at the home of the bride’s mother, Mrs. Phoebe Tolle, in the presence of intimate friends and relatives. Rev. S. A. Smith of Azusa officiated. The bride wore a dainty gown of white with lace garnitures. Following congratulations the wedding cake was cut and refreshments were served. At the conclusion of a two months’ wedding trip to San Diego and vicinity, Mr. and Mrs. Bowlsby will be at home to their friends at their home on Willow avenue, Rialto. Out-of-town guests were the groom’s mother, Mrs. Jennie Bowlsby of Los Angeles, Rev. and Mrs. Stacy Smith of Azusa, and the groom’s sister, Mrs. W. H. Williams and Mr. Williams of McKittrick.

A birthday dinner, celebrating the anniversaries of Mrs. Phoebe Tolle and C. E. Bowlsby, was given at the country home of Mrs. Tolle today. Two large birthday cakes were the table’s chief adornment.
At 12 o’clock those who sat down to eat of this delicious feast were, besides the two guests of honor, Mrs. Amy Tolle, Mrs. C. E. Bowlsby and two sons, Mrs. Jennie Bowlsby, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Tolle and daughter Martha, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tolle and son Jessie.

$50,000 INVOLVED IN TRANSFER OF GROVES
Twenty-Acre Gerster Place Sold to J. W. Brunton, Los Angeles Man.
Rialto, March 3 - The D. Gerster grove, consisting of twenty acres planted to navels, lemons and seedless grapefruit, situated in Riverside avenue about one mile south of the Santa Fe track, has been sold to J. W. Brunton of Los Angeles. This was formerly owned by Charles E. Bowlsby and carries twenty shares of Citizens’ Water stock. An eleven-acre grove in Redlands was given in part payment. The valuation of the two groves was placed at $50,000.

Charles Ellsworth Bowlsby, owner of extensive properties in Redlands, died late Saturday night at his 129 West Colton avenue home in Redlands. He was 76 years old and a native of Plattville, Wis.
As a young man, he lived in Galena, Ill., and attended college at Keokuk, Iowa. In 1883, he moved to California, settling first at Westminster, then moving to Rialto. He retired in 1900.
Survivors are his widow, Lois A. Bowlsby of Redlands; three daughters, Phebe Bowlsby of Redlands, Mrs. Ethe; Irene Youtsey of Dunsmuir, Cal., and Mrs. Sadie McNew
of Cottage Grove, Oregon; three sons, Raymond of Prescott, Ariz., Charles of Junction City, Oregon, and Robert L. of Glendale; a sister, Mrs. Della Williams of McKittrick, California and a brother, Edward S. of Oakland.
Funeral services will he held at 3 p.m. Wednesday from the Wilson funeral chapel, Redlands, with burial to follow in Hillside cemetery.
