George Clarke Rigby died, prematurely, on Feb. 9, 2012. He was born August 19, 1925, in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Elmer Clarke Rigby and LaRu Carson Rigby. He went to schools in Idaho Falls through high school, after which entered the U.S. Army. He served from 1943 to 1945. Later he attended Tulane University in New Orleans, where he met Anne McDowell Davis. They were married in Winston-Salem on June 3, 1950, and had seven children. His parents, brother Elmer and sister Alice preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Anne and their children Clarke of Winston-Salem; David of Winston-Salem; Emily Rudiger (David) of Virginia Beach, Va.; William (Florence) of Chapel Hill, N.C.; Alice Elliott (Frank) of Winston-Salem; Elizabeth Martin (David) of Davidson, N.C.; and Mary of New Orleans, La. He is also survived by his brother Odell of Salt Lake City, Utah, and ten grandchildren: Andrea and Lisa Rigby; Margaret, Paxton and Joseph O'Toole; Hazel and Georgia Lucy Rigby; and Walter, Samuel and Joseph Elliott. He worked for two years at Western Electric Co. in Winston-Salem and then worked at Security Life and Trust Co. He continued with that firm through its name change to Integon Life for 33 years, until retirement. He was a friend of Bill. He was pleased to have arranged for the "Rigby Grove", a group of trees planted in Stratford Park. There are trees for George and Anne, and for each of their seven children and ten grandchildren. He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as a fourth generation Mormon. A family visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 13, at Salem Funeral Home, 120 S. Main Street. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Salem Funeral Home Chapel.
