Demond B. Deppe

Demond B. Deppe, 88, of Nampa, passed away at his home Thursday, April 19, 2001.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Smith Building. Bishop Steve Frei will officiate. Graveside rites will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell. Friends may greet with the family Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, Nampa.

Demond was born Nov. 9, 1912, at Smithfield, Utah, the third child of Ernest and Clara (Bingham) Deppe. His early years were spent in Utah, and then moved with his family to Idaho.

On July 9, 1938, Demond married Leora M. Foster at Teton City, Idaho. As a result of this blessed union they had three children, Darwin, Linda and Janet.

Demond's ancestors were immigrants and Mormon pioneers that settled in the Salt Lake area in the 1850s. Demond's father died when Demond was only six years old, placing much responsibility upon him and his eight-year-old brother Floyd to help their mother care for two younger sisters and a baby brother.

Demond was an avid out-doors-man and enjoyed fishing and trapshooting, he also enjoyed bowling. This was of course until he starting golfing some 30 years ago and that became his favorite pastime. Through the different golf tournaments and events he had golfed with several celebrities, including Roy Rogers and Telly Savalas; he has also golfed several times with Jack Simplot.

He was a lifetime member of Broadmore Country Club of Nampa, the Nampa Elks Lodge, and a supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Nampa. Demond did everything in his life with passion and full-heartedly. Demond was a co-owner of Nelson & Deppe Inc.; he retired about 35 years ago; his family still operates the business. He helped construct the Galena Summit highway as well as numerous other roads and highways throughout this area. In his earlier years he worked with the CCC and helped during the construction of Anderson Dam. While in his early twenties, he was a cook for a sheep camp in the Teton Mountains.

Demond is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife of 62 years, Leora; three children, Darwin Deppe of Boise, Linda Kinney of Nampa, and Janet (and Bill) Moss of Rupert; seven grandchildren, Dianne, Carole, Darla, Debra, Lee Ann, Carrie and Ronald; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd Deppe of Pocatello and Tom Deppe of St. George, Utah; four sisters, Armenta Nelson of Nampa, Erma McRoberts of Kennewick, Wash., Alice Davis of Las Vegas Nev., and Cloreen Thompson of Livingston, Mont.; and his special companion, Missy the dog; as well as numerous other family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Loyd; and a grandson, Brian Jensen.

The family suggests that any memorial contributions be made in memory of Demond to either the Nampa Boys and Girls Club, 316 Stampede Drive, Nampa 83687; or to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. S., Nampa 83651.
