Solomon Miller was a son of George and Elizabeth Miller. Solomon married 13 Aug 1813 in Adair Co., KY to Nancy A. Antle. They traveled to Illinois by wagon in 1820. Solomon Miller originally owned the village of Salisbury, Sangamon Co., IL. He had it platted and surveyed 9 Jan 1832. He donated 40 acres for the town, and it was named Sol's bury in honor of him. Later the spelling was changed to Salisbury.

According to the "History of the Early Settlers of Sangamon County, Illinois" published in 1876, Nancy and Solomon Miller raised ten children: Barbara, Eve, Melinda, Allen, John Antle, Nancy A., Sarah, Jason, George Washington, Docia, and a stepdaughter, Barbara. They were members of the United Baptist Church, and Solomon followed the profession of farming.

Solomon's first wife, Nancy, died 1 April 1854. Four months later, Solomon married 15 August 1854 in Sangamon Co., IL to Lucinda Gard. Lucinda already had one daughter, Rhoda C.
