Martha Ann Whitcomb was born on 21 January 1856, to James B. and Lucinda (Crawmer) Whitcomb of Huntington Township, Ross County, Ohio. Martha's father, James B. Whitcomb fought in the Civil War and is buried in the soldier's section of Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio.
Martha was united in marriage to John Jacob Liebe on 15 July 1879, in Ross County. Their seven children were James Edward, Elizabeth "Lizzie Bell," Roy John, Forrest Adolphos, Ray Oliver, Hazel Mary and Olive Leora Liebe.
On 18 August 1928, Martha died from pneumonia at her residence, 389 East Fifth Street in Chillicothe. Preceding Martha in death was Lizzie Bell who died in 1883.
Reverend J. C. Smith officiated at the funeral which was held at John and Martha's home. Martha was carried by pallbearers, J. W. Hawk, M. M. Hill, H. W. Brown, E. O. Hatfield, C. L. Wilbur and E. Watters and laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery of Chillicothe.
