Oliver Springs Post Master

Samuel Shelton Crass, Jr., 86, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at Tennova Residential Hospice in Knoxville.

Mr. Crass was born November 25, 1925 in Roane County. He was a lifelong resident of this area.

Following his Oliver Springs High School graduation in 1943, he entered the United States Navy and served his country during World War II.

He was retired from the United States Postal Service and he was employed as the Post Master of the Oliver Springs Post Office for 35 years.

S.S. was a member of the Jonesville United Methodist Church and he was a founding member of the Cumberland Utility District where he continued to serve on the Utility Board until December of 2011.

Preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Shelton Crass, Sr. and Arminta Grace Hester Crass, by a brother, Hooper Crass and by a sister, Mary Hannah Wilson.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bobbie Reaves Crass of Oliver Springs, by sons; Samuel Shelton Crass III and wife, Emily of Oliver Springs and Charles J. Crass and wife, Rhonda of Harriman and by grandchildren; Wendy Crass Lineberger and husband, Rodney, Samuel S. Crass IV, J. Evan Crass and wife, Marta, Matt Crass and wife, Kristi, and Bryan Qualls and wife, Lisa, and by great-grandchildren; Robert Michael Hammer, Emma Elizabeth Hammer, Kendra Qualls, Cooper Qualls, Kate, Andrew, Allison and Julie Crass.

He is also survived by a sister, Myrtle "Lady Bug" Watson, of Marble Falls, Texas, and by extended family members and special friends.

The family will receive friends Saturday, February 11, 2012, between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 pm at Sharp Funeral Home. Burial and graveside services will be held Sunday, February 12, 2012, at 2:00 pm at the Jonesville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the Jonesville Cemetery, C/O Melba Bolinger, 424 Maple Avenue, Oliver Springs, TN 37840.
