Thomas, and his father, Robert Boyd, 1st Lord Boyd, were falsely accused of treason by the enemies of the Clan Boyd, but Mary's brother, King James II, believed the false charges. Thomas was attainted, and his title, honors, and estates were forfeited to the crown on 22 November 1469. When Mary arrived in Scotland, she was detained in custody at Dean Castle in Kilmarnock, by her brother James, until her marriage was annulled. Mary's and Thomas' marriage was declared void in 1473. Mary was then forced to marry James Hamilton, 1st Lord Hamilton.
It was through her children, by her second husband, that the Hamilton Earls of Arran and Stewart Lennoxs derived their claim to the Kingdom of Scotland.∼-My 16th Grt. Grandmother-
