In the 1900 census (Whiskey Run Township, Crawford County, Indiana) Willis was listed as a farmer and Clarissa said she was the mother of seven, six living.

Willis R. Okes, an aged and respected citizen of Marengo, died Monday after a few days illness of pneumonia. He leaves a wife and several grown children. Mr. Okes, for a number of years, resided in this place and was section foreman for a number of years. He has many friends here who will regret to hear of his sudden demise. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and K. of P. Lodges in that place under the auspices of which orders his remains were laid to rest in the Marengo cemetery Tuesday.

DEATH OF WILLIS OAKES
Willis Oakes, a highly respected citizen living just east of Marengo, died of pneumona Monday after a very brief illness. He and his family lived at English several years ago. He was a member of the M.E. church and also a member of the order of K. of P. Deceased was sixty-one years of age and is survived by three sons and three daughters. Funeral was contucted at Marengo Monday b Re. L. C. Carnes.
Then under the Marengo community column:
W. R. Oaks, who lived about two miles east of Marengo, died of pneumonia fever Monday evening and was laid to rest in the Marengo cemetery Tuesday, Rev. L. C. Carnes officiating.
Mr. and Mrs. David Oaks, of Belmont, Ill., Mrs. and Mrs. James Sevedge, of Princeton, Ind., and Mrs. Pendergest, of Indianapolis, were called here first of the week on account of the sickness and death of W. R. Oaks.
