Born Aug. 29, 1914, near Webster, she was the daughter of William Lloyd and Alice Amelia Thompson Kephart. On July 15, 1932, she married Gordon Shelman in Kahoka, Mo. He died in 1954. In November 1959, she married Charles E. Ashby in Washington. He died in 1979.
Mrs. Ashby was a homemaker.
She was a 1931 graduate of Sigourney High School. She was a 4–H leader for 10 years and a member of the United Methodist Church and Fortnightly of Washington. She enjoyed writing and playing bridge.
Survivors include two sons, Gordon L. Shelman of Brighton and Ogden Leon Shelman of Mediapolis; one daughter, Ann E. Sheetz of Keota; 10 grandchildren; 12 great–grandchildren; three great–great–grandchildren; a number of stepgrandchildren and stepgreat–grandchildren; one sister, Jessie Sellers of Sigourney; and three brothers, William L. Kephart III of Champaign, Ill., Russel L. Kephart of Decorah and Norman Kephart of Comstock, Wis.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, two brothers, one in infancy, and two stepchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Jones–Eden Funeral Home in Washington, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The celebration of life service for Mrs. Ashby will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Jones–Eden Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dennis Fox officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.
A memorial has been established.
