Stevens Point Daily Journal, 5 Oct 1931
Matt Lepinski, treasurer of the town of Sharon and for many years a merchant at Polonia, died suddenly at 9:15 this morning from heart failure, while picking mushrooms half a mile south of Polonia.
Accompanised by George Souik and Max Nornberg. Mr. Lepinski started out this morning shortly before 9 o'clock and drove half a mile south of Polonia on the Custer road. There the three men crawled through a fence to the property of John Samrowicz to look for mushrooms. Mr. Souik was somewhat ahead of Mr. Lepinski and when he discovered mushrooms bsside a stump he called out.
Not receiving any answer, he looked back and saw Mr. Lepinski lying on his face on the ground. Efforts were made to revive Mr. Lepinski but were fruitless.
Mr. Lepinski, who operated a grocery store in Polonia for 22 years, was born in Germany Poland on February 16, 1866. After immigrating to this country, he was married on May 22, 1899, to Miss Martha Kizewski of Sharon. He had been treasurer of the town of Sharon for the past 12 years, and treasurer of the Sacred Heart congregation at Polonia for 8 years. He was also a member of the Polish-American society.
He is survived by Mrs. Lepinski, and adopted son Leon Lepinski, two brothers, Stevens Lepinski of Stockton and Paul Lepinski of Stevens Point, and one sister, Mrs. Joe Lepak, also of Stevens Point.
