Wayne E. Bateman Sr., age 81, of Leroy, IN passed away after a short illness Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virgadell (Kenney); daughter, Karen (Ron) Warner of Hebron, IN; and son, Wayne Bateman of Hebron, IN. Wayne was blessed with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Shirley Sokol of Merrillville, IN; and brother, Delbert Bateman of Hebron, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 28, 2008 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, Crown Point, IN with Rev. Tom Shanahan officiating.

Mr. Bateman was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and was station in Guam. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #502 of Hebron. Wayne was retired from AT&T after 33 years of service and farmed for 60 years.
