Lillie M. Smith, 97, of Highland, Kansas, died Sunday morning, January 29, 2012, at the Highland Health Care Center.

She was born May 12, 1914 in Dunavent, Kansas, one of seven children of George Thomas and Mary Alice Meredith Dorrell. Lillie Dorrell married George H. Smith, January 6, 1933, at Highland. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers: Harold, Melvin, Russell, George Jr., two sisters: Flossie King, Mary Davis, and a granddaughter Ellen DeAnn Blevins.

Survivors include her children: Beryl (Nolan) Blevins of rural Highland, Lillie (Marvin) Ledbetter of Winchester, George "Gilbert" (Karen) Smith of Wathena; nine grandchildren: Vanetta Geiger, JoAnn McCauley, Laura Blanton, Wayne Ledbetter, Calvin Ledbetter, Brian Ledbetter, Scott Smith, Dean Smith, Bobby Smith; twenty-two great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.

Lillie graduated from Highland High School, attended the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church of Highland; and was a member of the First Nighters Club. Along with raising her family, you could find Lillie in the milk parlor helping George milk their herd of dairy cattle twice a day on the family farm south of Highland. In the early years, the Smith family delivered fresh whole milk door-to-door in the Highland area.

A celebration of Lillie's life is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, at the Highland Methodist-Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Jerry Petering officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland after 10 a.m. Tuesday where the family will meet from 6 until 8 that evening.

Memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice and may be sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 33, 66035.
