A resident of Baker, she died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at Lane Memorial Hospital, Zachary. She was 84 and a native of Wilkinson County, Miss.

Visiting was at Brown Funeral Home, Gloster, Miss., 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Religious services at Hopewell Methodist Church, near Crosby, Miss., at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Survived by three children, Evelyn Welch and Richard Durham, both of Baker, and Michael Durham, Baton Rouge; eight grandchildren, Jewel E. "Duke" Welch, Baker, Dorothy Welch Liddell, Zachary, Esther Welch Jones, Ethel, Laura Welch Christensen, Baker, Chris Durham, U.S. Army, Panama, Michelle Durham, Baton Rouge, Amy Durham Smith, Plaquemine, and Michael Durham Jr., Baton Rouge; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ada Smith and Maybeth Durham, both of Crosby.

Preceded in death by husband, Pete Durham, Baker; parents, Thomas and Carrie Floyd Ashley; a brother, Tom Ashley, Crosby; four half-brothers, Louis, Alec, Hiram and Will Ashley, all of Crosby; and two sisters, Hilda Ashley Sterling, New Orleans, and Doris Ashley Smith, Monroe.

She was a member of Hopewell Methodist Church.
