Robert Apgar Carvatt, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Carvatt of High Bridge, New Jersey. He married Mildred Edna Cann on June 26, 1937 in Somerville, New Jersey.

He worked in the pattern department at the Taylor-Wharton Iron & Steel Company's plant in High Bridge, New Jersey at the time of his wedding.

According to his wedding announcement, published in the Hunterdon County Democrat on June 24, 1937, he served on the jury who convicted Richard Hauptmann of murdering the son of Charles Lindbergh. Three other members of the jury attended his wedding - Charles F. Snyder of Lebanon, George L. Voorhees of Lebanon and Howard Biggs of Annandale.
