A longtime Highlands resident Jane Horan, passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, June 23, 2009, after a brief battle with cancer. She was a teacher with the Highlands Elementary School, Highlands for many years before retiring in 1996. She was a Girl Scout Leader of the Highlands Girl Scouts, president of the Atlantic Highlands Garden Club, Past President of the Historical Society of Highlands, Chapter Founder and president of Red Hat Society.
She was predeceased by her husband, James, in 1993; and a daughter, Jane Frances Brown, in 2002. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She is survived by her son, James Horan of Long Beach, Calif.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and John Sellgren of Live Oak, Fla., and Laura and Tim Hill of Atlantic Highlands; a daughter, Nancy Connell of Santa Barbara, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Tara Brown, Robert Brown, William Horan, John Connell, Katelyn Sellgren, Kelsey Sellgren, Shannon Hill, Timmy Hill; a great grandson, Logan Brown; a sister, Olive McCann; and two brothers, Robert and John Sell.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 26 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mt Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
