Mabel Carlson, 86, formerly of 1213 Bellville Road, Stratford, Iowa passed away at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa on Saturday, October 9, 2004. She had been a resident at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford, Iowa since November of 2001.
She was born on August 28, 1918 on a farm south of Gowrie, Iowa the daughter of Charles and Annie (Olson) Anderson.
On December 26, 1951, she married Marvin Carlson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Mabel was a 1937 graduate of Stratford High School. She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm. She enjoyed cooking, watching men's and women's Hawkeye basketball, and spending time with her family.
She was a member of the Stratford Lutheran Church where she was very active.
Her parents, husband Marvin in March of 1981, five brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Leland Carlson and his wife Marilyn of Stratford, Iowa, one daughter, Lornelle Riley and her husband Ted of Emmetsburg, Iowa, three grandsons, Matthew Chizek and his wife Rhiannon of West Des Moines, Iowa, Marc Riley of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Lee Carlson of Stratford, Iowa, and Katie Riley of Emmetsburg, Iowa, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Wednesday morning, October 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stratford Lutheran Church in Stratford, Iowa with Pastor Joe Lambert officiating.
Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Stratford, Iowa.
Friends may call at the Stratford Lutheran Fellowship Hall on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday morning at the Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
The family will be present at the Stratford Lutheran Fellowship Hall on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to greet friends.
Memorials may be given to the Stratford Lutheran Church.
