HANAHAN, SC - Dennis Lee Adkins Sr., 58, died Friday, June 4, 1999, in a Charleston, SC, hospital. Born January 18, 1941, in Fayette County, he was the son of Jonie Ballard Adkins (1912-1946) and Evelyn Samples-Adkins-Rush (1920-2015). Mr. Adkins was a retired 1st class petty officer with the U.S. Navy with 20 years of service, including service in Vietnam. He was a member of VFW Post 10256, the American Legion post in Goose Creek, SC, and Fleet Reserve Chapter 50. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Thompson-Adkins; two daughters, Denice Adkins-Donahue of Virginia Beach, VA, and Jane Adkins-Purvis of Rainbow City, AL; three sons, Dennis Lee Adkins Jr. of North Charleston, SC, Gary Adkins of Hanahan, SC and Richard Adkins of Morganton, NC; his stepfather, Jimmie W. Rush (Deceased) of Macedonia, SC; a sister, Mildred Adkins-Love of Lexington, NC; and three brothers, Samuel Adkins of Huger, SC, and Richard Adkins and Charles Adkins, both of Moncks Corner, SC. Private services and burial will be at Beelick Knob. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr Inc, Greenridge Road Chapel, North Charleston, SC.
