George was the son of John Bela Cook and Martha Ann Kelly Cook. He was a veteran of the Spanish American War. George's first wife was Nellie Lanford Cook. George and Lottye were married before 1937.

George Perry Cook was the 7th great grandson of Mayflower passenger Stephen Hopkins and 6th great grandson of Mayflower passenger Giles Hopkins. Stephen Hopkins was a signer of the Mayflower Compact. Stephen Hopkins was also shipwrecked with John Rolfe on his way to Jamestown, Virginia in 1609. In 1610, Stephen Hopkins arrived in Jamestown.

Two of George's ancestors are documented Daughters of the American Revolution ancestors. These ancestors are Jesse Cook and John Cole.
