Although the attached pictures show Samuel buried with his first wife, Harriet, at the Oxford Cemetery, his burial was actually at the Grabin Cemetery, aka Heifner Cemetery, per iowawpagraves.org/Johnson County records. It appears his 2nd wife, Mandy, didn't want him buried with Harriet.

A very complimentary biography of Samuel Brant is in the Portrait & Biographical Record of Johnson, Poweshiek & Iowa Counties, Iowa, 1893 book.

Samuel and Harriet had 10 children but only 4 lived to adulthood:
Emeline "Emma" Brant Eddy
Israel L. "Izzy" Brant
Josiah Brant, Memorial #9064132
Annis "Anne" Brant Chaney

Their 6 other children are buried near Harriet's tall marble headstone. There are 8 tiny white marble stones placed in a semi-circle around the front of the Brant's headstone. They are labeled:"infant", "Ida",and "infant" to the left of the headstone and "infant", "infant","Carl", "Mother" and "Father" on the right.

Two weeks after Harriet died, Samuel married Amanda "Mandy" Jane Heddlesten. She was 45 years younger than him and they were married over 10 years before his death. She then married Samuel's grandson, Albert E. Brant. Albert and Mandy share a headstone at Montpelier Cemetery in Crawford, Madison County, Iowa.
