Imogene Medley, also known as Gene, was born in Clay County, Arkansas but grew up in Rosedale, Bolivar County, Mississippi. She had one survivng brother, Thelbert George Ellison. At age 20 she moved to St. Louis, Missouri and married Thomas H. Medley in October 1937. Two children were born, a son and a daughter. They lived in South St.Louis City and later in North St. Louis County, Missouri. She worked at Chase Candy Company in downtown St.Louis and later in several retail stores. After retiring she and her husband visited many countries including Europe, China, Israel & South America. She and her husband loved to walk, walking many miles at a time throughout the neighborhoods. She was a volunteer at the local senior citizens center in North St. Louis County for many years. She was a member of Carondelet Baptist Church in South St. Louis, Missouri, and later a member of Riverview Gardens Baptist Church in North St. Louis County, Missouri until her death. She was a member of Eastern Star. For one and one half years she fought many battles with her illness of leukemia, always with a smile on her face, but her strength gave out and she couldn't fight anymore. She leaves a son, daughter, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, five grandsons, brother, and many friends.

Note: Her brother, Thelbert (George) Ellison died in Los Angeles, California and was cremated and buried at sea.
