William was born 23 Apr 1878 (or 1879) in Montgomery County, Alabama, son of Anna Eugenia (Greene) Meriwether, widow of Nicholas F. Meriwether (1837–1873). As William died five years after the death of Nicholas, the name of his actual father is not known.

William married Mamie Lula Lewis on 22 May 1898 in Montgomery County; they were the parents of two daughters, Mabel Beatrice *1899–1933) and Bessie Mae (1900–1988) Meriwether. Mamie died in 1901.

William next married Sallie Johnson on 23 Nov 1906 in Montgomery; they were the parents of eight children: Sarah Eugenia, Florence Adel, Wilhelmina Viola, Henry Kelso (ala Harold James), Woodrow Wilson, Beverly Lorraine and Frances Ramone Meriwether. An unnamed infant was born and died in 1919.

William worked as an iron molder; he was struck and killed by a car.

1900 Census and WWI Draft Registration state he was born in 1879, which conflicts with the headstone date.

Headstone shows death on 20 Jan; GA Death Certificate and obituary state he died 21 Jan 1932.

MERIWETHER—Mr. W. W. Meriwether, 54 years of age, of Egan, Ga., passed away suddenly Thursday (21 Jan) morning at Hampton, Ga. The remains were removed to the chapel of A. Hemperley & Sons, pending funeral arrangements.
