COCHRAN - Ellen Dykes Cote died January 18, 2012 at Summerhill Senior Facility in Perry, Georgia. She was 87 years old. Mrs. Cote had been a resident of Summerhill since December 2007 where she was lovingly cared for by the amazing Summerhill staff - each and every one, but we send special thanks to Orrie, Ruthann and Makeba.

Mrs. Cote was born in Cochran, Georgia on September 30, 1924 to James and Josie (Jones-Mullis) Dykes. She had 8 siblings. She married Charles Stanley Cote on December 26, 1945 in Cochran and immediately moved to Caribou, Maine where they lived raising three daughters until 1961. Due to Mr. Cote's civil service employment, they moved two more times, first to Battle Creek, Michigan and then to Hopewell, Virginia. In 1981, 36 years later, they returned to Cochran and retired.

Mrs. Cote was a loving homemaker for her husband and children. She loved to sew and work in her kitchen. She was an avid crossword puzzle solver as well as an avid reader. She attended the Salem Baptist Church participating in activities until her poor health interfered.

She is survived by her three daughters, Diane Cote Tilton (Jim) of Cochran, Georgia, Judy Cote Turner (John) of Battle Creek, MI and Peggy Cote Piggot (Doug) of Corunna, MI; five grandchildren, Marc, Kevin, Paul, Shannon, and Charlie; four great grandchildren, Jessica, Josie, Kenzi and Paul Jr.; and one great-great grandchild, Carter; one brother, Rawlins (Eulita) Dykes of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Aliene Lewis Dykes of Cochran; and brother-in-law, Dale Cote of Caribou, ME as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley in 1982, her granddaughter, Tracey Leigh Mott in 1986, her brothers, Elvin Mullis, Dudley Dykes and Tom Watson Dykes and her sisters, Mattie Mullis Purser, Lucille Mullis Roland, Jimmie Mullis Hoover and Virginia Dykes Mathis Murrow.
