He worked for TRW for 33 years until retiring in 1999. Laverne loved to watch football, NASCAR, and listen to country music. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and used to work on cars in his younger years.
Laverne is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Cindy Thayer of Lyons; children, Scott R. (Dee) Thayer of Ionia and Sean M. (Rhonda) Thayer of Saranac; sisters, Marie Devers of Ionia and Norma Jean Thayer of Hubbardston; grandchildren, Samantha Thayer, Jason Thayer and Moira Thayer; step-grandchildren, Steffanie (Shawn) Roberson of Ohio and Stacey (Bill) Kanouse of Ionia; great-grandchildren, Austin and Ethan and step-great-grandchildren, Noah, Dylan, Timmy, Skylore, Taylore and Aaleigha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clifford Jr., Robert and Henry and sisters, Minnie and Rosella.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012 at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with Pastor Greg Gladding officiating. Arrangements by Lake Funeral Home in Ionia.
