Final Rites For Mrs. Addie Smith
Funeral services for Mrs. Addie Le Phillips Smith, wife of the late Samuel H. Smith, were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O.T. Lee in the Allenton section Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. the rites were in charge of her pastor, Rev E.A. Paul, who bore beautiful testimony to Mrs. Smiths life.
Born in Wishart's township near Allenton on Feb 15, 1872, she was the daughter of the late Agrippa Phillips and Mary C. Phillips. She married Samuel H. Smith in 1890 and they lived near Allenton until his death in 1929. Since his death she had been making her home with her niece, Mrs. O.T. Lee and Mr. Lee.
During the final services a chior sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus", "Have Thine Own Way Lord", "Abide with Me" and "Asleep in Jesus."
Numerous and exquisite floral designs were banked around the grave. The flowers were in charge of Mrs. Allen Lamb, assisted by Mmes James Tyndall, V.E. Lamb, Rowland Davis, Stephen Brisson, H.F. Thompson, Lena McGlotchan and Ellis Branch and Misses Letha and Ruby Phillips, Mae Conner, Bessie and Mary Lee Wilkins, Beatrice Alford, Ava Grey Phillips, Evelyn Taylor, Grace Smith and Eloise Walters.
Active pallbearers were A.L. Smith, Allen Lamb, B.C. Mears, H.F. Thompson, B. H. Stansel and Mard Pittman. Honorary pallbearers were Tom Connor, J.M. Smith, W.M. Warwick, I.J. Prevatte, W.S. Smith, K.L. Davis and Ellis Branch.
Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. W.A. Smith of Summerville, SC. And Mrs J.F. Lee and daughter Mrs. Mildred Price of Wade.
