"Zsa Zsa" passed away Friday, January 13, 2012, with dignity, class and her usual panache. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Adian was the daughter of the late Patrick J. Meany Sr. and Mae (Sullivan) Meany. She held a Bachelor's from Emerson College and a Master's in Education from Springfield College. She taught English at Enfield High School for thirty years until her retirement in 1992. She was fortunate to see the world and traveled to Ireland, England, France, Japan, and Canada. She took flight on the Concorde and sailed the seas on the QE II. As a volunteer ombudsman for the Greater Springfield Senior Services, she was privileged to bring some light and laughter to the residents of local nursing homes. Adian was a loyal friend and maintained contact with friends she had made from kindergarten through retirement. She was an avid reader of all types of literature. She was a beloved mother to Adian (Doherty) Houle and her husband Dr. Alphonse T. Houle of Wilbraham, MA and James H. Doherty III and his wife Kathleen (Wagner) Doherty of N. Attleboro, MA. She was a loving grandmother to Victoria Houle, Alexis Houle, Meghan (Doherty) Locke, Caitlin Doherty and Ryan Doherty. She was a adoring great-grandmother to Jack Houle and Gabrielle Giuliano. She was predeceased by her siblings Frances (Meany) Sheehan, Patrick J. Meany Jr. and John Meany and her former husband James H. Doherty Jr. She leaves several nieces and nephews. Mass will be held in Adian's honor at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at St. Michael's Church, 128 Maple Street East Longmeadow, MA. A private burial will be held at a later date at St. Jerome's in Holyoke, MA. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Jericho House, 537 Northampton Street Holyoke, MA or the Dominican Monastery, 1430 Riverdale Street West Springfield, MA.
