Shelton Hinson

Retired Building Contractor Dies at Age of 80

Shelton Hinson, retired building contractor, died at 6:45 last night at Methodist Hospital after an illness of a month. He was 80. Mr. Hinson, who was a lifelong Memphian, made his home with his daughter, Dr. Ardenne Hinson of 1788 Peabody. He was an Episcopalian. Mr. Hinson retired about 20 years ago. He also leaves two other daughters, Mrs. Cornelius Whitaker of Memphis and Mrs. Russell O. Nye of Geneseo, IL, and a son, Henry R. Hinson of Memphis. National Funeral Home is in charge.

"PaPoo" was the gentlest soul I have ever known. He bounced me on his knee, sang:

Ride a cock-horse to Banbury Cross,
To see a fine lady upon a white horse;
Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes,
And she shall have music wherever she goes!

The he would swoop me around~ How fun for a toddler!

Shelton built beautiful homes in Memphis, often finishing the hand-carved woodwork himself. His daughter, Margaret, took me to some of the homes he built & they were absolutely lovely ~ He lived until I was 4 years old & they were memorable years because of this dear soul~ His great-granddaughter, Brenda
