Civil War Union Army Soldier. On August 24, 1861 he mustered mustered in as a Private in Company I, 5th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. He served with that regiment for over a year, then he was discharged on October 28, 1862 to join the Regular Army.

On the same day he was mustered in as a Private in Company D, 2nd United States Regular Cavalry. He served until he was discharged due to expiration of term of service on March 25, 1867 at Fort Kearney, Nebraska, having re-enlisted twice.

He married Sophia Cadot. Seth and Sophia had 5 children, Anna, Ida, Lucy, Rebecca, and Seth.

On August 13, 1870 he filed for a United States Army Invalid Veterans Pension (Application #159479, Certificate #113056).

Listed in 1890 US Census Veterans Schedule as residing in Juliustown, Burlington County, New Jersey.

On January 29, 1908 his wife, Sophia Bennett, filed for a United States Army Widow's Pension (Application #884062, Certificate #642817, Iowa).

1880 US Census lists him as residing at age 40 in Springfield Township, Burlington County, New Jersey with wife Sophia (age 40), daughter Ida (age 13), daughter Lucy (age 7), daughter Anna (age 3), and his mother, Sarah Bennett (age 75). His occupation is listed as Farm Laborer.

1870 US Census lists him as residing at age 32 in Springfield Township, Burlington County, New Jersey with wife Sophia (age 22) and daughter Ida (age 2). His occupation is listed as Farm Laborer.

1860 US Census lists him as residing at age 22 in New Hanover Township, Burlington County, New Jersey on the farm and family of Albert Allen. Seth's occupation is listed as Farm Laborer.

1850 US Census lists him as residing at age 13 in Westampton Township, New Jersey with the family of Joseph Deacon (age 76). No other Bennetts live with the family.

His government issue Headstone erroneously lists his regiment as being the 2nd New Jersey Cavalry.
