Olive Beers Clayton

Olive Beers was born June 9, 1886 in Pleasant Grove. She received her early education in the Vernal district school and later in the Brigham Young University. She was a real help to her father in his mercantile business in Vernal, and later in the millinery business/ (In those days a good milliner was very much in demand since all hats were made in local shops, and Aunt Lizzie Beers" and her daughters were considered real professionals. Olive helped her sisters, Mary and Jane, in both Lehi and Provo.

She studied piano under Professor Ernest Bassett. Upon one occasion when he gave a musical recital she played a number on the piano, and then sang a vocal number as well. A lady in the audience was heard to say, "Isn't there anyone but Beers girls who could furnish music?"

In 1904 Olive married Ray Haler Reader. They had two children: Dorothy who married Andrew Ezra Allen, and Ray Franklin who married Rachel Coles. Olive had a very pleasant disposition. She died December 10, 1941 in Sacramento, California, and was buried in Sacramento County.
