Cleta Berry Peterson Brittain was born to Clarence and Olga Peterson of Winterset, Ia on February 19, 1926. She attended elementary and high school in Winterset. She married Philip Eldred Brittain and to them were born Philip Clark Brittain, Babetta Valda Brittain Ruchotzke, and Margo Renee Brittain Davis. Phil and Cleta farmed Northeast of Winterset, just down the road from North McDonald Cemetery. Cleta died on February 22, 1962 at the age of 36 following a brief illness. Her funeral was held at the United Methodist Church in Winterset and was attended by over 1,000 people. She was buried at North McDonald Cemetery in rural Madison County near Winterset.
