A veteran, he served in World War II with the Air Force.
Mr. Metzler was a fire chief at PPG, East Deer, retiring in 1982 after 38 years.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Eagles in Freeport.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Christman Metzler; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Lorrie (Louis Jr.) Sillaman of Freeport; and four sisters, Florabell Hooks, Pansy Mitchell, Dorothy Check and Mona Jean Harbison, all of Freeport.
He also is survived by a stepgranddaughter, Samantha L. Sillaman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. and Daisy Booher Metzler.
At the request of the family, there will be no visitation. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 323 Fifth Street, Freeport, PA 16229. Arrangements are under the care of REDMOND FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 High Street, Freeport.
