She was born Oct. 15, 1920 in Freeport.
Mrs. Mitchell owned and operated Pansy Mitchell's Beauty Shop in Freeport for 40 years.
She was a member of Freeport United Methodist Church. She was active in the Senior Center in Freeport and enjoyed playing bingo. Mrs. Mitchell was the 1953 ladies Pennsylvania state archery champion. She became a professional archer and competed in archery shoots and competitions, many of which were televised.
Survivors include two sons, Tim (Jana) Mitchell of Greensburg and Dan (Mary) Mitchell of Connellsville; three daughters, Betty Jane (Norman) Vutz of Phoenixville, Judith C. Mitchell of Freeport and Janet (Donald) Snyder of South Buffalo; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Florabell Hooks, Dorothy Check and Mona Jean Harbison, all of Freeport.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Mitchell, in 1979; an infant son, Edward Mitchell; her parents, William and Daisy Booher Metzler; two brothers and four sisters.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at REDMOND FUNERAL HOME, INC., 524 High St., Freeport, where a funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. Her pastor, the Rev. William White, will officiate. Burial will follow at Freeport Cemetery, Freeport. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Freeport Fire Department, Market Street, Freeport, PA 16229, or Freeport United Methodist Church, High Street, Freeport, PA 16229.
