John William Ashworth, 73, of 150 South Thirteenth street, a retired merchant and resident of this community for the last three years, died yesterday after a long illness. He was a native of Kaufman, Texas.

Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Mary Jane Kaufman; a stepson, Elmer Magee of Lindsey, Calif.; and his daughters and sons, Mrs. Katherine Bert, Mrs. Minnie Powers and Miss Mary Ashworth, all of Richmond; Fred Ashworth of Arkansas, John Ashworth and Mrs. Clara Hood, both of Texas.

Funeral services have been set for 9 a.m. Thursday at the El Cerrito chapel of Wilson and Kratzer, with committal to follow in Santa Clara Cemetery at San Jose.
