On April 17, 1928, he married Frances L. Logan in Barbour Co., AL.

He joined the Georgia State Patrol in 1941 and graduated as a member of Class 4. The following notation is found on his WWII draft registration: "3-16-42 Georgia State Patrol, LaGrange Ga." He attended the prestigious FBI National Academy in 1951 as: "Atlanta - Harvey Alton Poole, Lieutenant, Georgia Bureau of Investigation." From 1953 until 1963, he worked cases involving subversives. He retired from the GBI in 1963 and later worked for a private detective agency as director of their polygraph division.

Graveside services for H.A. Poole, an Americus native who died in Atlanta after being in declining health for some time, were held at Rylander Methodist Church near here. Masonic rites were also conducted. Mr. Poole was a retired Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Robert Thomas of Orlando, Fla; mother and 3 sisters.
