Mr. Young was a budget officer with U.S. Postal Service in Asheville, Richmond, Virginia and Washington D.C. He served as interim postmaster for Hendersonville in 1978 before his retirement in 1979. He co-founded the Three Chopt Sandwich Shoppe on Main Street in Hendersonville in 1981. He was a member of the Horse Shoe First Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the Flying Tigers
