Sue began work at Ecusta Paper Corp. She worked for the U.S. Federal Civil Post Office Department in Asheville and at headquarters in Washington, DC. She later became a real estate agent in Virginia and volunteered as a tour guide at Arlington House (Curtis-Lee Mansion). Sue & Joe returned to Hendersonville in 1979 and co-founded Three Chopt Sandwich Shop in 1981 and enjoyed working on Main Street until 1990. Sue was very active with the Democrat Women's Club. She was a member of Horse Shoe Baptist Church.
