George Frank was a son of Benjamin Soloman Pope and Mary Jane "Molly" Welch Pope of Bullock County, Alabama.
On 6 April 1919, he married Dora Smith Brown (his first cousin) at Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia. They later divorced in Jefferson County, Alabama.
He then moved to Etowah County about 1926.
On 24 December 1928 in Gadsden, George married Veo Virginia Lovvorn, daughter of Robert Leonard Lovvorn and Ada Pearl Barrentine Lovvorn.
He and Veo had six children: Robert Frank Pope, Mildred Elizabeth Pope, Milta Louise Pope, George Edsel Pope, James Christopher Pope, and Lewis Douglas Pope.

George Frank Pope, 76, Tidmore Bend Road, Rt. 3, died Saturday night at the residence. Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Crestwood Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Brown O'Quinn, Frank Samuels and W.R. Giddens officiating. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery.
Survivors: wife, Mrs. Veo Virginia Pope; daughters, Mrs. Mildred Pope Butts, Gadsden; Mrs. Louise Pope Awbrey; sons, Frank, James and Edsel Pope, Gadsden; Douglas Pope, Sterling, Ill.; brothers, Tom Pope, Trussville, Olen Pope, Troy; sisters, Mrs. Florence Sizemore, Mrs. Lee McWhorter and Mrs. Flora Waters, all of Troy; Mrs. Gun Winfield, Birmingham; 16 grandchildren; two great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ray Stephens, Hugh Williams, Marvin Thomas, Ed Hancock, K.D. Pruitt, Wayne Logan and George Roberts.
Mr. Pope was a native of Bullock county and a resident of Gadsden most of his life. He was retired from the engineering department of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 22 years service. He is the father-in-law of Joe R. Awbrey, owner and operator of Crestwood Funeral Home & Cemetery.
