Merline King-Fitch was born June 12, 1942 in Monticello, Arkansas. Merline was the daughter of Mrs. Wilma King and had 5 brothers and sisters: Frank Spencer, Horace Spencer, Glen King, Eva Nell Wilson and Minnie Cunningham. Merline completed elementary and high school in Springfield, IL. Upon her graduation she moved to Chicago, IL. where she was employed as a data entry technician. She began her advanced education which resulted in her earning three Masters Degrees in Computer Science, Education for Special Education Children and School Administration. Merline worked tirelessly for the Chicago Public School System, until her retirement of 30 years of service in 2005 as a Teacher and Assistant Principal. Upon her retirement she worked fulltime in an alternative school, until the onset of cancer which was her terminal illness. She was a gifted teacher, mentor, excellent role model and a true professional who touched so many of her students, their families and her staff lives. A friend to innumerable people, whom they all knew was a friend who they could always count on to be there, offer advice, and listen to them. She was a world traveler, who had an adventurous spirit. She loved to travel, learn, and see various cultures and places around the world while adding to her extensive collection of art and artifacts from her world travels. She served in various public service organizations, clubs and community service events and was a consummate people person who gave so much of herself in time, energy and support.
