Martha Ann Dotson was born 8 Dec 1851 in Crawford Co.,IN. She was reared by her Dotson grandparents as her parents died when she was very young. She married John Melvin Riggle in Crawford county 25 August 1876. They moved across the Ohio River to Louisville, KY for a time about 1890. The family moved east to Henry/Shelby Co.,KY area in a few years where they reared five of their six daughters.
After John died in 1901, Martha, daughters Louella and Asenath moved back to IN by 1910 where she was a Seamstress. By 1920 she was living with daughter Louella and her husband. In 1930 Martha was residing in Shelby Co., KY with daughter Hallie Wallace and her family. It is reported by a grandson that Martha died 21 Jan 1932, in Louisville, KY in the evening,after eating her ususal bedtime bowl of ice cream
