Vera Grace (Clark) STAPLETON, 91, a resident of Huntingdon Manor,
formerly of Mt. Vernon Ave., Smithfield Township, Huntingdon, died
Friday, March 23, 2001, at 3:50 p.m., at Huntingdon Manor. Born May 23,
1909, in Cromwell Township, she was the daughter of the late Walter
Jackson and Mary Iona (Chilcote) Clark. She married Wilbur Roland
Stapleton June 4, 1927 in Smithfield, with the Rev. O.B. Poulson
officiating. Mr. Stapleton preceded her in death Aug. 14, 1963.
Surviving are two daughters.and one son: Lois J. Kyper, Smithfield,
Huntingdon; John W. Stapleton, New Middletown, Ohio; and Eva G.
Stapleton, Huntingdon. There are seven grandchildren and three great-
grandchildren. One daughter, Nancy Dovenspike, who had resided in
Vintondale, and a great-grandchild, preceded her in death. One brother
and a sister, Eva Happle of Orbisonia and Robert C. Clark of Huntingdon,
R.D., survive. Five brothers and one sister are deceased: Forest Clark,
Miles Clark, Norman Clark, Ruth Clark, Howard Clark and Walter F. Clark,
who died in infancy. Mrs. Stapleton was a member of St. James
Evangelical Lutheran Church, Huntingdon. She was a lifetime member of
the Standing Stone Senior Citizens; was a member of the Mead Retirees
Association and the Local 1040. For three years, she was employed as a
weaver with the Huntingdon Silk Mill and later worked at the J.C. Blair
Company and Mead Products for 33 years, retiring in 1974. She attended
the Jefferson School in Pogue, in southern Huntingdon County. She had
been a resident of Huntingdon since 1924 and had lived at her Smithfield
Township home from 1925 until 1999. A funeral service will be held
Monday, March 26, at 2 p.m. at the John B. Brown Funeral Home,
Huntingdon, with the Rev. Dr. Keith Dovenspike, Mrs. Stapleton's
son-in-law, officiating. Interment will be made in the Trough Creek
Baptist Cemetery, Cass Township, Huntingdon County.
