MRS. ELIZA JOHNSON --- Ten years them allotted by the psalmist to man, having tasted all of life's joys and life's sorrows, Mrs. Eliza Johnson yielded back to the Giver her trusteeship, Sunday morning, at 6:30 o'clock. She had been ill a long time and her death was not unexpected. She passed quietly, in peace beyond death's portals.
Eliza Sullivan was born in Iberville parish, May 21, 1847. Her father, Henry Sullivan, was long sheriff of that parish and his child was given many advantages in education. She grew to womanhood and at the age of eighteen years was united in marriage to Evarice Angers in St. Martin parish where the young groom kept store.
Three children came into this household, Walter Angers, Mrs. H.F. Reynaud and Mrs. J.E. Reynaud. In 1876, the husband and father was called in death and in 1884, his widow remarried, and one son. W.L. Johnson was born of this marriage. All children are living and citizens of this city.
Besides the children there survive her, seventeen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was an obedient daughter, a faithful wife and a good mother. Of such as her are the mothers of this land.
Funeral services were held in the M.E. Church, South, here, Monday forenoon, at 10:30 o'clock, Rev. Foster, the pastor, preached an eloquent and comforting sermon. The interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
