Rites Held Here On Tuesday For Esther Johnson

Rev. John Linna, pastor of United Lutheran Church, officiated at rites held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Plowe Funeral Home for Mrs. James (Esther) Johnson, 80, a resident at the Crystal Manor for the past two years, who died at 2 a.m. Sunday at the manor. She had been in ill health for the past four years.

Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers Tuesday were Melvin Peterson, Rubert Peterson, Sigurd Johnson, George Westcott, Rudolph Westcott, and Carl Lindquist.

Mrs. Johnson was born on February 16, 1888, in Canada, and came to this area as a young woman in 1910. She resided here for 15 years, moving to Iron River in 1925. Her home was there until 1951 when she moved to Escanaba where she remained until 1966 when she became a Manor resident.

She was married in 1912 to James Johnson, who died in 1943.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Ray (Helen) Crandall, of Iron Mountain; a brother, Carl Pearson, of Crystal Falls, and four grandchildren. A twin sister, Mrs. Jeanna Bregger, and a son, Leslie preceded her in death.
