Jacob was the son of John Christian and Frances Welliver*. He is believed to have been born in 1825 (not 1835 as his monument states). He was born in Madison Township (not listed on Findagrave locations). John Christian was the son of Valentine Christian (May 10 1756 Hunterdon Co. NJ-Dec 14 1844 Columbia Co. PA) and Rebecca Robbins (Sept 10 1757-Dec 5 1838 Columbia Co. PA). Valentine was a fifer during the Revolutionary War for the 3rd New Jersey. His family had settled in Columbia County before the war and was driven out by the Indians at one time.

Jacob was one of the earliest settlers of Jackson Township. He worked a a farmer and a miller. Jacob was involved in lumbering, operating a saw mill and chopping mill. Most of his family members were Baptist. He was a trustee and also held other offices at the Derr's Baptist Church. He served the township in official relations.

He was married to Martha S. Smith in September of 1848. She was the daughter of Chester Smith (Aug 30 1794 Whatley MA-Aug 19 1865 in Jackson, Columbia Co. PA) and Rachel Mellick Nov 6 1794 PA-Sept 19 1875 Jackson, Columbia Co. PA). Chester was a farmer and wagon maker (both in Derr's-link). The known children of Jacob and Martha Christian were:

Jacob and Martha's son Justin was a physician. He married Celia Peck on August 20 1893 in La Porte, Pennsylvania. Their only child Justin Loomis Christian, Jr. was also a physician. Justin senior used the name 'J.L. Christian' throughout his life. Dr. Justin Christian, Jr. was a dedicated physician who didn't marry until later in life. His wife was Myra R. Prowell, who outlived him by 36 years.

Their son Thomas H. was also a physician. Thomas married Sarah E. Hockman (March 3 1858 Reading, PA-died before 1888). She was the daughter of Henry M Hockman and Emma Miller. They were the parents of only one child as well, Harry O. Christian (May 4 1879 Berwick, PA-1948 PA).
