PFC Monty E. Snyder

Son of Russell and Bernice Barngrover Snyder, Monty was born on 9 July 1925 in Burlington, Iowa. He attended Burlington High School from September 1940 to September 1941.

He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and was employed by the Elk's Club before leaving for the United States Army on 24 February 1944. He left for the Pacific Theater of Operations in December 1944, where he was assigned to the 382nd Infantry Regiment. In a 29 April 1945 War Department telegram, Monty's wife, Susanne Lyon, was informed that Monty was Killed-In-Action on Okinawa on 9 April 1945.

Monty was survived by his wife and two daughters; his mother Bernice Lockwood of Burlington; his father Russell Snyder of Davenport, Iowa; one sister, Barbara; one brother, Kenneth; and his grandfather, G. G. Barngrover, with whom he made his home for many years.

Private First Class Monty E. Snyder, United States Army, was buried in Burlington's Memorial Park Cemetery on 12 May 1949.
