Levi Ashbrook was the son of Aaron Ashbrook and Hannah Ward Cook. He is buried in the Ashbrook Plains Burying Ground, Romney, Hampshire Co, VA (now West Virginia). Levi last lived in what is now Berkeley Co, WV. He was married (1st) to Mary Pentecost. It is believed that she is buried in Romney, WV. He was married (2nd) to Mary Chenoweth who was the first known daughter and seventh child of John and Mary Smith Chenoweth. She married at the age of 20, Levi Ashbrook, ten years her senior. Levi, a preacher and Justice of the Peace, was a widower with three or four children. He would later serve in the Revolutionary War. Together he and Mary would produce 12 more children, all probably born in Hampshire County. This next generation would extend the Ashbrook-Chenoweth ties. Mary's stepson, Levi, and two of her own sons, John and Absolum, married Chenoweth daughters of Mary's brother, John Chenoweth and probably his second wife Eleanor Parke. These latter two of were first cousin marriages. Another four Ashbrook children would marry into the Peters family. The Ashbrook lines would spread to Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. Levi died in his fifties in 1794 and Mary remarried ten years later to James McBride of Virginia, who she also survived. She went to Ohio and is buried at Turkey Run in Fairfield Co, OH. Levi Ashbrook was a veteran of the Revolutionary War having served as a Lieutenant. He was a Baptist Minister. Levi Ashbrook was census enumerator in his district in Hampshire Co, VA in 1782 and 1784. He served on a jury in the same county in 1782. Preacher Elder Levi Ashbrook is recorded in the Baptist Association Library at Chester, PA, as a preacher in North River Church near Romney, VA from 1790 to 1793. It is stated they thought illness and death ended his charge there.

(1) Levi Ashbrook who married Eleanor Chenoweth. They moved to Kentucky and some of their decendents can be found in Nebraska.

(2) John Ashbrook, b. Abt. 1769, Hampshire Co., VA (now WV); d. June 28, 1819, Allison Twp., Lawrence Co., IL. Married Mary W.Chenoweth. He moved to Kentucky. In 1815 he moved to Illinois and settled in Allison Township, Lawrence Co, IL. Some of his decendents are still in Lawrence Co, IL.
(3) Phoebe Ashbrook, b. 1775, Virginia; d. Aft. 1843, Married Thomas Wheeler Tucker.
(4) Elizabeth Ashbrook, b. Bet. 1770 - 1774, Hampshire Co., VA, d. Bet. 1809 - 1841, Hampshire Co., VA, m. Joshua Peters, Hampshire Co., VA, b. August 05, 1769; d. September 14, 1829, Fairfield Co., OH.
(5) Absolom Ashbrook, b. Bet. 1770 - 1774, Hampshire Co., VA, d. Bef. March 1841, Kentucky; m. Rachel Chenoweth, Frederick Co., VA; b. 1777, Hampshire Co., VA, d. Bef. 1850.
(6) Aaron Ashbrook born 7 Jan 1780 and died May 12, 1865, Pleasant twp., Fairfield Co., OH He was married on 22 Dec 1800 to Abigail Peters, dau. of Tunis Peters Sr and Francina Adams.
(7) Eli Ashbrook born 23 Sep 1781 in Hampshire Co, VA and died 24 Jan 1877. He is buried in the Green Hill Cemetery, Johnstown, Licking Co, OH. He was married on 5 Jan 1802 to Catherine Cata Peters, dau. of Tunis Peters Sr and Francina Adams. She was born 6 Apr 1794 in VA and died 1 Jan 1871. She is buried in the Greenhill Cemetery, Johnstown, Licking Co, OH.

He was married on 15 Sep 1810 to Permelia Peters, dau of Tunis Peters Sr and Francina Adams. She was born 1 Oct 1793 in Hampshire Co, VA (now WV) and died 26 Sep 1885. She is buried in the Tukery Run Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Amanda Township, Fairfield Co, OH.
(12) Thomas T. Ashbrook born 28 Jun 1793 and died 7 Oct 1855. He is buried in the Bethel Cemetery, Lafayette Township, Coles Co, IL. He was married
(1st) to Nancy Wells. She was born 7 Jun 1799 and died 10 May 1832. She is buried in the Turkey Run Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Amanda Township, Fairfield Co, OH. He was married
(2nd) in 1833 to Nancy Baker. She was born 1807 in MD and died 22 Apr 1871. She is buried in the Bethel Cemetery, Lafayette Township, Coles Co, IL.
