Louis was born in Dime Box, Texas on October 26, 1931, the son of the late Louis Gest, Sr. and Vivian (Matejowsky) Gest. He married Barbara Giese on January 29, 1960 at St. John Lutheran Church in Houston.
He served in the U.S. Army. Louis worked as a machinist, drywaller, managed Nechanitz Store and retired in 1995 as a farmer and rancher.
