Franklin County, Virginia, Deed Book 66, Page 121:
This deed made this 31st day of October 1917, between Mary A. Brooks of the 1st part and J. D. Robertson and Martha J. Robertson, his wife parties of the 2nd part are of the County of Franklin and State of Virginia.
Witness: That the party of the 1st part for and in consideration that the parties of the 2nd part are to take her at their home as one of their family and feed, cloth, and administer to her needs, and for the love and affection she has for them hereby assign and give unto the parties of the 2nd part, four certificates on the First National Bank of Rocky Mount, Virginia whose face values are $400.01 and any other income that she may come into possession of, the party of the 1st part does also deed and convey and give unto the parties of the 2nd part one cow and one hog, and bedding, but the party of the first part retains the use of bedding until her death.
Witness the following signature and seal on the date above named.

The forgoing deed with the certification of acknowledgment thereon endorsed this day admitted to the record at 8:30 AM.

After returning from WV, Mary Ann lived with her son, James Richard Brooks, and his family until Oct 1917 when she was persuaded to go live with her daughter, Martha Jane Robertson, and her family. When she left her son's place, she had a cow, pig, bedding, bank account and etc. James Edgar Brooks, Mary Ann's grandson, said he rode to her funeral in December 1917 on a horse behind his dad. Snow was on the ground.
