Granny, as she was called, not just by her grandchildren, but everyone. She was my great-grandmother. She died before I was born.

I have seen in a few places on the Internet that she was a Miller. She was not. Her father was Phillip "Hiram" Owens and mother was Ellen Shepherd. After Hiram died and Ellen's sister Nancy died. Ellen married her brother-in-law, Nancy's husband, Daniel Miller.

Nelia Ann was first married to Thomas M. Ashley and these are the parents of my grandmother, Laura Ann Ashley.
