Walter was the eldest child of Edward E. Lahey and Ella Grumann.

He was born and raised at Two Rivers, Manitowoc Co., Wisconsin; he died at Veteran's Hospital, King (near Waupaca), Wisconsin on 24 October 1983; and was buried there [Soc. Sec. Rec.].

Between 1910 and 1911-2 he resided with his family in Two Rivers, where he was a student [1910 US Census; Two Rivers Dir., 1911-2]. In 1920, a factory laborer, he was enumerated with his parents and family there in the 1920 US Census.

Walter married Pearl B. WAGNER at Two Rivers, Wisconsin on 12 October 1922.

Walter and Pearl were enumerated at Manitowoc Co., Wisconsin in the 1930 US Census.

Walter and Pearl divorced sometime after 1930.

He served in the US Army during WWI as a private in the SATC, and re-enlisted in the regular army on 21 July 1942 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In his application he stated that he had 2 years of college and experience as an author and editor.

Walter resided at King, Wisconsin, by the time of his mother's death in April 1971 [His Mother's Obituary].
