Myrtle was the second daughter and fourth child of Edward E. Lahey and Ella Grumann. Her paternal grandfather, Edward Lahey, served in the 27th Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War, and her father was a Fire Chief for the town of Two Rivers, Wisconsin.

Myrtle died of colon cancer at Two Rivers Hospital on 29 June 1964; was buried there at Holy Cross Cemetery on 2 July 1964 next to her husband [Manitowoc Co. VR Deaths; Two Rivers Bur. Rec. 2048; g.s.].

Myrtle was born and raised in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, where she attended school. She was raised as Lutheran, the religion of her mother, Ella GRUMANN.

In 1920, she was listed in the Two Rivers Telephone Directory with her parents at 2002 Monroe St.

At age 20 she eloped and married Emanuel Maurice ("Em") BROCHER on 3 May 1924 at Menominee, Michigan. At age 21, she had her first child, a son, followed by daughters born in 1929 and 1943.

Myrtle and Em moved from Two Rivers to Milwaukee in 1927. Soon afterwards the depression came to Wisconsin and Em often had trouble finding work as a construction carpenter. Unable to pay the rent, they moved frequently in Milwaukee, often living on North Booth Street near Riverside High School. In the years leading up to WWII work for Em became more plentiful and he rose from carpenter to foreman to construction supervisor.

Myrtle and Em retired to Two Rivers in 1959. After Em's death in 1961 she resided with her daughter Joan at Two Rivers until she died there of cancer in 1964.

She was a kind-hearted, good-humored, adventuresome person. She was outlived by most of her siblings, who lived into their 90s.
