.....Joseph Howes, who came from Devonshire, England, to L'Orignal, in 1834. Soon afterwards he purchases and settled on the farm in the Seigniory, which is now owned by his son, Joseph Howes. He died there at the age of 85; he had three sons and five daughters. Samuel, one of the sons, married, in 1860, Leonora, daughter of Robert Marston, and settled on the farm in Longueuil, a few miles from the homestead, where he still lives. He takes an interest in all local affairs, and has been Municipal Councillor and School Trustee for many years; he has three sons and four daughters living.
